John Rollins

Captain John Rollins
Born on March 23, 1806 in Maine
Died in 1885 in Minneapolis

He is the namesake for Rollins Ave SE in the Como neighborhood.

Rollins ran for Mayor of St. Anthony in 1855 and 1860. He lost both elections.

Built the "Rollins" sawmill in 1871 and operated it until 1873.
Operated the first flour mill on Hennepin Island.
He was a Regent of the University of Minnesota.
He built and operated the river steamboat, Governor Ramsey, which went from St. Anthony to Sauk Rapids. This is how he earned the nickname "Captain".
