In Memoriam
Edwin S. Elwell Jr.
WWII Army Veteran and President of Northland Milk Company. Mr. Elwell died in February of 2008. He was kind enough to visit with the Como History Group in 2003 and share information about the Elwell family and their connection to the Como neighborhood. |
Joe Stimart
WWII Navy Veteran and retired Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service. Joe died in April of 2010. Back in 2003, he shared old photos of his father's "Stimart Shoe Shop" on 22nd & Como Aves SE with the Como History Group. Along with Joe's father, Herman, there are several other Stimarts listed as Como residents in the 1922 and 1936 city directories. The Stimart family has strong ties to Como going back almost a century. |
Elmer Frobom
A landscaper for the University of Minnesota, Elmer died in November of 2006. After his time on 26th Ave SE in Como, he spent his last years in Wisconsin. He shared a bunch of his stories with the Como History Group in 2003. |
Bruce Zacherson
WWII Navy Veteran and Como resident died in August of 2005. He liked to say that he only lived in 2 places (both in the Como neighborhood) he was born and raised on 12th Ave SE and then lived at 25th & Como Aves SE. In 2003, he brought in photos and shared stories of his time in the Como neighborhood. He was also featured in a May 2001 Comotion newsletter for the more than 16,000 lifetime bicycle miles that he'd ridden so far. |
