The Stimart family & the Stimart Shoe Shop

The Stimart family has long and strong connections to the Como neighborhood, making it the place many of them not only lived, but worked. Louis is the first of the family to be found both living and working here by 1909.

  • Louis J. Stimart worked at the Wabash Screen Door Company located at 2222 Elm St SE.
    • He's listed as a Wabash Screen Door foreman in 1909.
    • He lived at 1812 Como Ave SE in 1909 and 1922.
    • Mrs. Ernestine Z. Stimart, widow of Louis, was living here in 1936.
  • Frank Stimart lived at 1049 24th Ave SE in 1914.

  • Herman J. Stimart was the shoemaker who owned the Stimart Shoe Shop at 2201 Como Ave SE.
    • He lived at 1024 24th Ave SE in 1922.
    • Mrs. Annie Stimart, Herman's widow, was living here in 1936.
    • Clifford H. & Elizabeth Stimart also lived here in 1936. Clifford was a machinist in the Soo Shops.

  • Joseph P. Stimart, Herman's son, lived in the family home at 1024 24th Ave SE until his death in 2010, at the age of 87.

  • Oliver G. Stimart was a fireman with the Minneapolis Railway Company and lived at 1033 24th Ave SE in 1922 and 1936.
    • In 1909 he's listed as a machine operator residing at 447 Adams (outside the Como neighborhood). Herman's boarding with him at this time and also working as a machine operator.
    • He was married to Alice by 1936.
    • Russell O. Stimart also lived here in 1936. He was a postal carrier.
  • Florent J. Stimart lived at 1039 22nd Ave SE in 1922 and 1936.
    • He was married to Elizabeth by 1936.
